Turning health data into evidence that stands up in a manuscript, a boardroom, and a ministry.

The Social Epidemiology Lab is an independent research and analytics practice. We help universities, clinicians, NGOs, and public institutions design studies, analyse data rigorously, and translate the results into decisions — from a single 2×2 table to a national impact assessment. Every engagement is led personally by Dr. Kostadin Kostadinov, MD, PhD, MPH.

What we do

Six services, one standard: methodologically defensible, transparently documented, and reproducible.

Epidemiological analysis

Measures of association, standardization, survival, and surveillance analytics — cohort, case–control, and cross-sectional designs handled end to end, with the right effect measure and the right confidence interval every time.

Technical & statistical analysis

Study-grade biostatistics: regression modelling, diagnostic accuracy, agreement and reliability, and publication-ready tables and figures — powered by our own open-source R toolkit, kkstatfun.

Study design & data collection

Protocols, sample-size and power calculations, sampling strategies, questionnaire design, and reproducible data-collection pipelines — so the analysis is sound before the first record is gathered.

Health economics & HTA

Cost-of-illness, cost-effectiveness and cost-utility modelling, budget-impact and health-technology-assessment support — Markov models, ICERs, and probabilistic sensitivity analysis built to CHEERS standards.

Policy analysis & documents

Policy briefs, position papers, and evidence syntheses that translate findings into actionable recommendations — grounded in formal training in Impact Assessment & Policy Appraisal and ongoing study of law.

Impact assessment

Regulatory, health, and social impact assessments — ex-ante and ex-post — using structured intervention logic, multi-criteria analysis, and distributional analysis aligned with Better Regulation practice.

Why work with us

Academic rigour

Every method is one we teach and publish. Analyses are defensible under peer review, not black boxes.

Fully reproducible

Code, data dictionaries, and versioned outputs come with the deliverable — your results can be re-run and audited.

Decision-focused

We don’t stop at a p-value. Findings arrive framed for the manuscript, the committee, or the regulator who needs them.

Selected expertise

The Lab draws on active academic work in infectious-disease surveillance, air-quality and environmental epidemiology, socio-economic burden-of-disease studies, and health-technology assessment — with results presented at ISPOR, EPH, and ECDC forums and published in peer-reviewed journals. See the full record on the CV.
